We had this gorgeous cheese platter after our visit to the fantastic Blackwattle Deli at the Fish markets in Sydney. We were impressed by the great service, the fact that you can actually taste the cheese before buying it and that Clio and Penelope, the two lovely cheese mongers are very knowledgeable and helpful.
We chose (clockwise) a pretty ripe but still very good Petit Livarot from E. Graindorge which is a strongly flavoured French washed rind; then from Milawa cheese company in Australia, a soft cheese called King River Gold which was delicious even if it had a strange sandy rind (crystals of some sort); then English Stilton, this one is from Woolies, the Woolworths brand actually, and we find it absolutely delicious; finally there is an Italian cheese called Casatica di Bufala which is very different. Wendell loved it. I was taken aback for a short while and then loved it.
The Petit Livarot was pretty smelly… but not overripe thank god! It is delicious with home-made bread. I prefer it without the rind at this stage of ripeness…
There is nothing like a good cheese platter to enhance a Friday night drinks before dinner, the Aussie way!
This is the Petit Livarot in all its fragrant beauty :)
