It was my first time at Buon Ricordo in Paddington, and I will remember it!
The service was impeccable, friendly and even warm, the Italian way. The Martini was delicious and the meal memorable.
It started with antipasti to share amongst four guests. Everything was delicious, each bite an explosion of flavours. There were marinated carrots, capsicum, eggplants. And if I remember well, we had cheese croquettes which were delicious (coming from a “no-deep-fry” person), cauliflower and slice of something very delicious.
We all had Aperol. It’s a tradition!
This typically Italian amuse-gueule was bruschetta. It was fresh and good.
Our friend Michael is very particular about Martinis. He travels the world to get a good one and will choose his hotel in London because the Martini is exceptional. Michael’s Martini, the one he makes at home, is known by a lucky few to be the best in Sydney. According to the man himself, Buon Recordo’s Martini is the second…
It was indeed a delicious version of this classic drink with a trace of Vermouth and the excellent Tanquaray 10 gin. Olives were presented on the side, in another mini Martini glass filled with ice to keep them cold.
FETTUCCINE Cream and parmesan, topped with a fried truffle egg. Tossed at the table.
This is their signature dish. Wendell took it as an entree. It was a truffled fried egg with parmesan and a creamy sauce. It smelled like truffle as soon as we pushed the door to enter the restaurant. It was a truffled evening :) We loved the quality of the pasta, the freshness of truffles and the whole blend of flavours.
GNOCCHI Housemade potato dumplings with fior di latte, smoked mozzarella, fresh napoletana sauce, basil and parmesan.
This was soooo fresh and delicious with the taste of smokiness, subtle but present, that it put “making gnocchi” on the top of my to do list.
QUAGLIE Butterflied, grilled quails with prosciutto and sage, served with grilled taragna polenta.
Wendell loved this. I didn’t try it!! Shame on him (or on the Aperol + very dry Martini + White + Red wine…).
VEGETABLE SIDE: potatoes and green beans.
Simple is the best. Yes this was fantastic! Simply oiled with a good olive oil and flavoured with garlic.
TOURNEDOS ROSSINI Aged Black Angus beef, 150 days grain fed wrapped in pancetta, with foie gras and Madeira sauce.
Extremely tender with a very well executed sauce, this dish was a masterpiece.
CROSTATA D’ARANCE Orange tart with candied citrus and vanilla ice-cream.
Byron had this one and I didn’t try it but it looked delicious.
SEMIFREDDO AL TORRONE Nougat semifreddo on a pistachio scented cream, served with candied fruit.
I was a tad bit disappointed with this one. I love nougat and the nougat taste was there but there was a little bit of something missing there. Maybe I am not a huge fan of the semifreddo texture.
Last table to leave. This was a fantastic night!
