The Foodie House is a little restaurant in the heart of Miranda Westfield mall (Southern Sydney). It is a good surprise. The street joint atmosphere carefully recreated by stylists is nice and takes your mind off the mall mayhem. Shelves all laden with Vietnamese food products make a pretty decor.
Bottles and jars of many products (no idea what that is, probably decorative water) are organised in lines and colours which make the place very colourful.
The menu has remained unchanged since the opening last year. Very simple but efficient.
Large communal tables at the front and smaller tables hidden at the back.
Orders are placed at the counter.
My absolute favourite dish is this simple rice paper rolls plate. They are very fresh, probably less fancy than Miss Chu’s but worth choosing, especially for their fantastic warm peanut sauce. Totally addictive.
Well.. I am a Pho snob, so I’ll pass on that one. It is a very basic Pho.
Wendell is a total Pho snob. His opinion is not too favourable either. If I could have a chat with the chef I would try to convince him to have a richer broth, put more star aniseed, more bones, make it more earthy. More Pho herbs would be great (saw tooth coriander, Vietnamese mint, perilla, Vietnamese basil). Having little round sauce dishes to pour hoisin and chilli sauces would be awesome too.
This duck dish comes with rice a dark rich sauce and a simple broth. It is absolutely delicious. You have to try that!!
I have been at The Foodie House about 10 times already and tried many dishes. A lot of them were very good and definitely worth a visit. If you ever go, let me know what you think :)
