Young Henry’s in Newtown is a usual Wednesday night joint before dinner. We have tried a lot of different beers and loved them all. This is a micro-brewery which is totally worth a visit.
Young Henry’s beers have character and this is what you’re after when you drink micro-brewed beer. I love their IPA’s especially and anything red to dark.
You can purchase standard long necks or 2 litres bottles which by the way are very pretty. As they do, you might want to turn them into a fancy vase at home…
I appreciate particularly their quirky marketing and have many time bought a beer because of it’s funny description…
When you enter Young Henry’s, you go through the brewery first, admiring the massive tanks, huge collections of kegs and piles of bags full of malt.
The decor is very Newtown, of course…
You’ll be warned, by several signs and panels, NO DICKS allowed here. Well, we always had a great time… It must work.
From the bar, or more behind the bar, you can see the brewing “yard” and its stainless steel forest. You will feel dwarfed by the size of the tanks (or vat, I am not sure what word is the right one here, we call them “cuve” in French).
Palettes of kegs ready to be delivered all around Sydney and beyond where you can be served Young Henry’s draft beers more and more often which is quite enjoyable as it is showing a real shift in the Australian beer culture. Drink less. Drink better.
Of course, we always leave with a little reserve of YH’s nectar to share at our micro-brewery degustation session at home.
Next time we will have to try their spirits!
